PagoPA Payment System Guide What is pagoPA, and why is it required?
What is pagoPA, and why is it required?
Italy's national electronic payment system, pagoPA, is Italy's system designed to facilitate transactions with public administration bodies. Established by the Agency for Digital Italy (AgID), it provides a standardised protocol for all payments to public administration.
Since June 26, 2020, all University of Florence payments must be processed through pagoPA. The system offers multiple payment channels:
— Online through institutional websites
— Physical locations (bank branches, post offices)
— Mobile apps (PayPal, IO app)
— Credit/debit cards
— Home/mobile banking
Payments are categorised as either:
1. Spontaneous (initiated by the payer)
2. Expected (requested by UNIFI for existing debts)
For spontaneous payments, the University of Florence uses the IRIS platform from the Tuscany Region, accessible through the IRIS - Regione Toscana portal. The system ensures real-time payment confirmation while maintaining high security standards through PCI and PSD2 compliance.
