Since 2020 BABEL has organised its own international conference series and a programme of seminars, lectures and workshops, bringing together scholars, regulators and practitioners working on distributed technologies, digital assets and financial regulation.

BABEL's own conference series, bringing together scholars, regulators and practitioners on the legal, economic and technological dimensions of digital money and distributed technologies.

III BIC — BIC25

Florence, May 2025. Sessions addressed digital legal tender and its implications for monetary policy and financial stability, and the technological challenges in the implementation of digital currencies. Organised in connection with the PRIN2022 DeTOKoDE research project. Conference website, including recordings of all sessions.

9-10 December 2021, Department of Economics and Management, University of Florence. Held online.

I BIC — «CBDCs, or What Fiat Currencies Are Still For»

December 2020, online. The first edition addressed the wave of central bank digital currency projects that took shape during 2020 — from the People's Bank of China pilots to the BIS report and the European Central Bank's own report and public consultation on a digital euro. Five speakers discussed what remains of the function of fiat currency once central banks issue digitally.

Filippo Zatti and Rosa Giovanna Barresi spoke on the legal tender status of the digital euro and on the payment service providers regime under the Commission proposal of 28 June 2023.
