20 October 2026 — Guest lecture: The Digital Euro. A New Currency or a New Medium?

On Tuesday 20 October 2026, at 12:00, in Room D6/0.06 (Novoli Campus, Via delle Pandette 32, Florence), BABEL and the Department of Economics and Management (DISEI) host a guest lecture by Prof. Caroline Kleiner (Université Paris Cité; University of Luxembourg):

“The Digital Euro: A New Currency or a New Medium? Legal Tender, Monetary Power and Cross-Border Issues”

As the digital euro project moves forward, the lecture addresses three questions at the core of monetary law: what legal tender status would mean for a digital form of central bank money; how the issuance of a central bank digital currency reshapes monetary power; and which conflict-of-laws and cross-border issues arise when euro-denominated digital money circulates beyond the euro area.

Introduced by Filippo Zatti and Rosa Giovanna Barresi, with Arianna Abitante (European University Institute). The lecture is held in English within the courses Blockchain and Economic Law of Digital Assets, Economic Law and Business Law, Innovation and Sustainability (a.y. 2026/27), and is open to the Department community.
