A Major National Research Project on Tokenisation Involves BABEL

We are thrilled to share that BABEL is a key participant in a groundbreaking national research project titled “Designing Governance for the Token Economy in a Decentralised Era.” This project holds significant implications for the future of tokenisation. This 2-year project is funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research under the PRIN 2022 program, with the support of the Next-Generation EU. It brings together researchers from the Universities of Turin, Milan-Bicocca and Florence to conduct a comprehensive legal and economic analysis of tokenisation and its implications.
Led by Professor Riccardo De Caria of the University of Turin, the project aims to:
— Develop a taxonomy of different types of tokens
— Analyse the tokenisation of physical and digital assets
— Examine legal challenges related to ICOs, STOs and cryptocurrencies
— Identify regulatory approaches to govern tokenisation
Under the coordination of Professor Filippo Zatti, BABEL's team will bring their extensive expertise to focus on central bank digital currencies, decentralised finance, and ESG considerations of digital assets, ensuring the success of our research. This project aims to produce cutting-edge research that will inform policymakers, businesses, and the public about this rapidly evolving field. It builds on BABEL's existing work on blockchain and digital assets, complementing initiatives like our ELDA professional training course. We look forward to collaborating with our project partners and stakeholders to advance our understanding of the token economy. We will keep you updated with regular progress reports, ensuring you are always informed and involved in our journey.
